Surrounded by green hills the dam is a very scenic spot and is popular with locals who like to jog, stroll or ride bicycles around it in the late afternoon and early evening. After exercising you can buy cheap food and drink from the small stalls that are found near the car park. To get to Bang Wad Dam visitors should follow the road signs for the Phuket Golf Country Club.

Phuket Zoo

Visit Phuket Zoo during your stay here and enjoy a wonderfully different type of zoo. Lush tropical gardens invite you to stroll around in the shade of giant trees across bridges onto islands containing all kinds of strange animals. Phuket Town Night Market

If you are looking for some good shopping but want to get out of the overpriced shopping centers, then you should check out one of the Phuket Town Night Markets. The best of the bunch is likely the weekend market located somewhat near the Central Festival. The market runs from Saturday to Sunday every week and is open in the evening through most of the night.

There are literally hundreds of stalls, each selling their own unique style of wares. We won’t lie to you, the majority of vendors are selling women’s clothing and shoes. But for those men looking to go shopping, fear not, there are still plenty of men’s clothing shops as well as other items that both sexes can enjoy.

Patong Night Market

Patong Beach transforms into a large night bazaar every evening, when all the main roads become clogged with stalls selling handicrafts, silk scarves, sarongs and a variety of beach clothes, leisure wear, leather goods and luggage, CDs, computer games and electronic gadgets and toys.

Thalang Museum

Thalang National Museum is situated on Pa Khlok Road, to the east of the Two Heroines Monument. This museum gives an insight into Phuket's colorful history. It contains numerous artifacts, and an exhibition depicting the famous battle of Thalang showing the part played by two sisters, Kuhnying Jan (or Thao Thep Kasatri) and Kuhnying Mook (or Thao Sri Suntorn), who succeeded in repulsing the attacking Burmese arm.

Phra Thong Temple

Wat Phra Thong, near the Thalang District Office, north of Phuket Town is famous for a half- buried golden Buddha statue called Luang Poh Phra Thong (Golden Buddha) in its grounds. Its other moniker is Wat Phra Phud, meaning 'Temple of the protruding Buddha'. The main attraction is the half-buried golden Buddha image which is said to be 'untouchable' in that every person who has tried to dig it out is reported to have been cursed.

Big Buddha

Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the island's most important and revered landmarks. The huge image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and at 45 metres high it is easily seen from far away. The lofty site offers the best 360-degree views of the island (think sweeping vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon beaches, Chalong Bay and more.) Easily reachable via a six-kilometre road leading from Phuket's main artery, it's a must-visit island destination.

Chalong Temple

Chalong Temple (Wat Chalong) is the largest of Phuket's temples, and the most visited. Locals and many Thai tourists come to pray and pay respects to several revered monks who were the founders of Wat Chalong, among them Luang Pho Cham and Luang Pho Chuang, 2 monks who were well known for herbal medicine and took care of local villagers and negotiated for a settlement during a Chinese miners rebellion in the 1870's.

Canoe and sea kayak adventures

The strange and beautiful limestone scenery around this area contains a secret world of karsts, caves, tunnels and interior lagoons - known locally as 'hongs'. These collapsed caverns eroded by natural forces over millions of years, can only be entered by a sea canoe or kayak when the tide is just right, revealing a hidden and unique natural environment. An ideal eco-tourist activity, sea canoeing provides the perfect way to explore this fascinating world.

Go Kart

Need a bit of adrenaline rush to shake the sloth out of your lazy day on the beach but you don't want to get 'too physical'? Here is one that shouldn't be too tiring: Go Kart. It's fast, loud. Exciting and fun to compete with friends. There are two Go Kart tracks on the island and strangely, they are facing each other near Patong, just passed the hill and close to Kathu. Patong Go Kart Speedway is really obvious and you can't miss it when driving by this road. The other, Phuket Kart Speedway, is just across the street, but apart from a sign board, you will not notice it.

Nature trekking

To experience a different side of Phuket, try a trek through the island’s interior. Khao Phra Thaew National Park is Phuket’s last remaining virgin rainforest and is home to protected species of wild animals. The national park has several forest trails for hiking and guides can be hired from the reserve office near Ton Sai waterfall. There are also tour companies that take small groups on excursions through jungle paths, which also include hotel transfers, English-speaking jungle guides, and drinks.

Currently the only wake park on the island, its location offers exotic views of the surrounding trees and hills. Wakeboards, gloves, vests, water skis, helmets, and lifesaving gear can be rented while basic lessons are provided free of charge by staff members.

Snake Farm/Snake show

At the snake farm, just like in a zoo, you will get a general idea of how many different kinds of these boneless creatures that exist. A man will show different snakes and a woman will in her best English explain the effects of the venoms. You also will get the chance to pet a living cobra and have a very close look at its teeth. The best cobra show you can find is "King cobra " show, located in the Phuket shooting range compound. The show also provides knowledge about how to react when you find snakes.

Horse riding

Horse riding is another wonderful activity for the entire family. There are four centres catering to this activity and even the youngest or complete novice can join in. If you’ve never ridden before, livery staff will always lead you or be there to lend a hand. Beach rides are a favourite and the jungle rides are perfect for hotter weather.

There are various elephant camps around Phuket, that provide an opportunity to ride an elephant along a trail through jungle and rubber plantations and that is close to nature, an exciting, enjoyable and unforgettable time.

Promthep Cape

Phromthep Cape is the island's most photographed and perhaps best-known location. Every evening, large tour buses, scooters and private cars sweep through Rawai Beach and up the island's southernmost hill in order to watch the sunset at its peak. On the top of the hill stands a busy car park where vehicles disgorge crowds of people from every corner of the world. Cameras flash, fingers point and lovers cuddle as Phuket's most fabulous free show is re-enacted nightly – the sunset.

Kata View Point

Kata viewpoint is one of the most frequented viewpoints in Phuket. From here, it is possible to take in views of Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches. Located between Nai Harn and Kata Noi beaches, the viewpoint is busy most days of the year and is a staple of many tour itineraries. Called locally ‘Khao Saam Haad’ (Three Beaches Hill), the local municipality for some reason has officially renamed it ‘Karon Viewpoint’.

It’s located just to the south of Kata Noi Beach and looks out directly out to the Andaman Sea but most people have their cameras trained due north at the undeniably impressive eight-kilometre vista of the three west coast beaches.

Chinese Temple in Phuket Town

Phuket has a large percentage of Chinese residents descended from those who emigrated from southern China a few centuries ago to work in the tin mine business as coolies. These people brought with them their rich culture and traditions and these influences are evident in the number of Chinese temples and shrines around the island and more markedly so in the yearly Vegetarian Festival.

Their religion was and still is predominantly a mixture of Buddhism incorporating with Chinese as well as Taoist gods. Red and yellow are the main colours used and animals such as dragons, lions and monkeys are also important symbols, seen around Chinese temples and shrines.

A 100-year-old Phuket Chino Portuguese building

The significant Sino-Portuguese buildings of Phuket were built in the tin mining era. First influences came from Chinese architecture, showing in the design of the roof including doors and windows. The buildings were mainly one- or two-story buildings made from brick and wood. They had thick walls with Chinese-style tiles.

Rang Hill

Khao Rang (Rang Hill) is one of Phuket’s most famous viewpoints. Located to the northwest of the city centre, its summit offers views out over the town, to the south of the island, neighboring islands and along the hills forming the ‘spine’ of the island.
